The Epsilon Story: How it all began
Hello Beauties and thanks for joining us on the Epsilon blog!! I thought you may be interested to know how Epsilon began, so here goes:
I (Libby) started my hairdressing career at the renowned Servilles Academy. I decided as a teenager that if I was going to be a hairdresser I wanted to be trained by the absolute best in the country, so after finishing a business diploma at our local Polytech I moved from Tauranga up to Auckland to start learning my craft.
Servilles Academy was everything my young heart had dreamed! Being trained by world renowned stylists, assisting on Fashion Week, having International Artists do demos every other month - it was the best hair training anyone could ask for - and in little old New Zealand!
Straight after finishing at the Academy I was lucky enough to get a job as a junior at Servilles Ponsonby. Fast forward 15 years and I had worked my way up to being a Platinum Stylist, trainer, manager and finally owner of the Salon.
However, around 8-9 years in I started to get sick. Of course I had always suffered from dermatitis/eczema (what hairdresser doesn't!) but it became more than that. Debilitating exhaustion and pain was eventually diagnosed as stage 4 Endometriosis.
Throughout the years, working with different products alleviated the dermatitis. Whenever we had shampoo and conditioner at the basins that was sulphate free, mine and others skin issues started to clear up. I began researching this and discovered that there was a 'natural beauty' world that existed - and the products were not just hippie, craft market soaps and shampoos made of oils and herbs, but beautiful high-end products that did just as great a job as what we were using in salon.

Further research started to consistently show the links between parabens in beauty products to hormonal illnesses like endometriosis and even some cancers. It was abundantly clear to me that I had to commit to eliminating all parabens and sulphates from my own life, and use the platform I had as a hairdresser talking to 30-40 clients a week to educate them as well.
By now Auckland life had started to wear a little thin and as my best and oldest friends started to move back to Tauranga to start families, my husband and I thought that a move would be just what we needed. With a doggie that adores beach walks it was clear to us that the Mount needed to be our base! Mount Central development was well underway and I knew that is where Epsilon needed to be.
So with a site and a vision for bringing wellness-based beauty to my home town, we moved down in early 2017. My team naturally gravitated towards me with hairdressers who shared the passion for stunning hair while using fewer chemicals - we haven't had to advertise and the CV's seem to come just as I am thinking we need another team member.
So - welcome to Epsilon.
We look forward to treating your hair while staying true to our mission of paraben free, sulphate free beauty.
